South African musician Danny K mourns death of wife Lisa Koppel
South African musician Danny K is mourning the death of his wife, Lisa Koppel, who has died at the age of 41.
The family confirmed her passing to News24 today, Monday morning. Danny K’s mother, Pam Koppel, verified the news, stating simply that Lisa had passed away. The family indicated they would not issue a public statement, and no cause of death or further details about the circumstances have been disclosed.
Lisa, the daughter of prominent Johannesburg divorce lawyer Billy Gundelfinger, began her career as a model before studying law. She earned an LLB from Unisa and was admitted as an advocate of the High Court in 2010. At the time of her death, she was an associate at Billy Gundelfinger Attorneys.
She and Danny K (real name Daniel Koppel), the award-winning pop and R&B singer known for hits such as “Hurt So Bad” and collaborations including work with the late Mandoza, married in 2012 at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West. The couple have two sons, Jayden and Kyle.
Danny K, a multiple South African Music Award winner and long-time figure in the local entertainment scene, has previously spoken publicly about personal loss, including the death of his brother Jarren in a 2003 helicopter crash. Condolences have begun circulating online as news of Lisa’s death spreads.
