BREAKING NEWS 🚨
Second Suspect Arrested in Assassination of EFF Leader Monica Dube
The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has arrested a second suspect in connection with the June 2026 assassination of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Monica Dube.
The 39-year-old male suspect was apprehended on Tuesday evening following an intensive, intelligence-driven investigation that positively linked him to the crime.
He is expected to make his first appearance before the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, where he will face a formal charge of murder.
Dube, 44, served as the EFF Tshwane Region 2 Secretary and Election Coordinator. She was brutally gunned down on 13 June 2026 at her home in Wallmannsthal, north of Pretoria, in the presence of her family members.
Reports from the initial investigation revealed that armed assailants forced their way into her residence, ordering her children out of the room before opening fire.
Tragically, the fatal attack came just months after Dube had survived an earlier attempt on her life. In March 2026, she was shot 11 times and spent weeks in intensive care before making a recovery.
This latest breakthrough follows the high-profile arrest of the first suspect, Sipho Mahlangu, in July 2026. Mahlangu, 35, was taken into custody just three weeks after the murder and faces charges of murder and robbery.
He has made several appearances before the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court and remains in police custody after his bail application was previously postponed.
Authorities had long maintained that multiple hitmen were involved in Dube’s assassination.
The EFF and Dube’s family have welcomed the developments, previously demanding that all individuals linked to the political hit face the full weight of the law.
The PKTT’s investigation remains active as they continue to untangle the network behind the coordinator’s targeted killing.
