Mosimane confirmed as new Bafana Bafana head coach
Pitso Mosimane has been confirmed as the new Bafana Bafana head coach. The announcement was made on Tuesday morning at SAFA House.
Mosimane takes over from Belgian coach Hugo Broos, who previously guided Bafana to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medal. The appointment comes after weeks of negotiations between Mosimane and the South African Football Association (SAFA).
Although SAFA’s NEC had backed Mosimane for the position, the final agreement was delayed by contractual disagreements. The two parties reportedly had to resolve several issues before the deal could be concluded. These included matters around Mosimane’s commercial activities, image rights, and his other football-related projects.
There were also discussions about his podcast, Changing the Game with Pitso, and his Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools. SAFA reportedly wanted clarity on how these activities would operate while Mosimane was contracted as Bafana coach. The disagreements delayed the formal announcement despite Mosimane being the preferred candidate. The two sides eventually reached an agreement, paving the way for his return to the national team.
“Coach Pitso Mosimane arrives at SAFA House ahead of the confirmation as the new Bafana Bafana coach. He takes over from the former Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos,” read a statement posted on Bafana’s official X account.
Mosimane previously coached Bafana between 2010 and 2012. He returns with an impressive coaching record that includes CAF Champions League success with both Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly. His immediate task will be to prepare Bafana for their upcoming international commitments. The appointment also gives Mosimane another opportunity to lead the national team and build on his previous experience with South Africa.
