Matlala Set to Plead Guilty in SAPS Medicare24 Tender Fraud Case
Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala intends to plead guilty to fraud, corruption and money laundering charges linked to the controversial multi-million rand SAPS Medicare24 tender.
His case was separated this week from that of his co-accused senior police officers and is now proceeding independently in the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court.
Matlala’s company, Medicare24 Tshwane District, was awarded the approximately R360 million health services contract in 2024 despite clear red flags over fronting, collusion and lack of capacity.
The tender was later cancelled by SAPS following internal audits, with Matlala having already received substantial payments before its termination.
A plea and sentencing agreement is expected to be placed on record, potentially seeing him cooperate with the state as a witness in exchange for a lighter sentence.
