Madlanga Commission Summons Crime Intelligence Deputy Head Major-General Feroz Khan to Testify
The #MadlangaCommission of Inquiry has issued a formal notice requiring Major-General Feroz Khan (left), deputy head of Crime Intelligence in the South African Police Service (SAPS), to appear and testify starting on 1 July 2026.
Khan is expected to testify for as long as necessary until excused by the commission’s chairperson, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga (right). The commission has set aside several days for his evidence.
The summons follows weeks of intense scrutiny surrounding Khan, whose name has featured prominently in testimonies linked to the 2021 Aeroton cocaine bust and other alleged irregularities within SAPS Crime Intelligence. Several witnesses have made serious allegations against him, including claims of interference in police operations and connections to criminal networks, though Khan has previously been cleared in internal disciplinary processes related to some of these matters.
Khan’s electronic devices, seized during his arrest in May 2026 on charges related to alleged unlawful possession of precious metals and defeating the ends of justice (alongside co-accused including Major-General Ebrahim Kadwa), were handed over to the commission. He had launched an urgent High Court application to interdict access to the devices but withdrew it on Monday, 8 June 2026.
The commission described Khan’s testimony as key to its work, given the numerous allegations implicating him and other senior SAPS officers. Khan remains on bail and is due back in court on related charges on 14 July 2026.
The Madlanga Commission continues its probe into political interference and alleged corruption within the police service.
