Madlanga Commission postpones Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala testimony amid heightened public interest
The #MadlangaCommission of Inquiry has postponed the scheduled testimony of businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, which was due to begin tomorrow, 7 July 2026, citing heightened media and public interest in the proceedings.
In a statement, the commission confirmed that while Matlala’s appearance remains part of its ongoing investigations, his testimony has been deferred to a later date to ensure orderly proceedings and manage security and logistical concerns linked to the intense scrutiny surrounding the matter.
Matlala, who has featured prominently in the commission’s hearings on alleged police corruption, tender irregularities, and organised criminal infiltration within the criminal justice system, was expected to be one of the key witnesses this week. His involvement has drawn significant attention in previous testimony, particularly in relation to controversial SAPS-linked contracts and alleged syndicate activity.
Despite the postponement, the commission has confirmed that Matlala’s legal representatives will still appear before the inquiry on Tuesday as scheduled, suggesting that procedural matters relating to his testimony may still be addressed in his absence.
The decision comes amid a broader pattern of disruptions and adjustments within the commission’s timetable, as several witnesses linked to high-profile corruption and organised crime allegations continue to draw public and security-related concerns during their appearances.
