Former Mogalakwena Municipal Manager Remains in Custody as Bail Application Is Postponed
Former Mogalakwena Local Municipality Manager Morris Montego Maluleka appeared before the Mokopane Magistrates’ Court on Friday in connection with allegations of fraud, corruption and money laundering linked to a municipal fleet management tender awarded in 2022.
The matter was postponed to Monday, 19 October 2026, for the formal bail application to proceed, with Maluleka remaining in custody.
The Hawks arrested Maluleka on 7 October 2026 following investigations into alleged irregularities surrounding the awarding and management of the municipal fleet contract.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the contract was initially reported to be worth approximately R4 million. However, further investigations allegedly revealed that the amount authorised exceeded R20 million.
The investigation centres on suspected financial irregularities involving the municipal fleet management contract. The allegations are yet to be tested in court, and the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The bail proceedings are expected to determine whether Maluleka will be released pending the finalisation of the case.
Further developments are expected when the matter returns to court on Monday.
