Death is the cruelest thing on this planet, despite the fact that we are constantly confronted with it. We can never get used to the fact that, at some point in our lives, we will undoubtedly leave this planet, but we are consoled by the fact that death is an ephemeral recumbent hibernation, whereas Heaven is the ultimate terminus.
When someone has died, those they leave behind, particularly family members, friends and to a lesser extent colleagues, are left in deep pain, however, there is just heightened pain when the deceased is still in their youth years, brimming with a lot of potential and the World at their feet.
This is what Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members and the broader South African society felt this morning when news emerged that the party’s eThekwini Ward 98 councillor candidate, Sanelisiwe Luthuli has died.
Her death was communicated by the party’s eThekwini Region, but they did not disclose details pertaining to the cause of her death.
“We are saddened by the sudden passing of our ward 98 Councilor candidate Sanelisiwe Luthuli. We send heartfelt condolences to the Luthuli family and close friends during this difficult time. Further communication regarding the memorial service will be communicated in due time,” the eThekwini EFF Region posted on their official twitter account.
Many who had interacted with her waxed lyrical about the significant contribution she made in mobilising support for the party in that part of KwaZulu-Natal. Some were left completely shattered as they believed she was a dedicated leader who had so much potential.
Luthuli’s death comes just three weeks before the country goes to the local government elections which she would loved to win for the EFF in her area.
But, as fate would have it, the party will have to move with automatic alacrity to fill in the vacant position she has left.
