The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) is facing explosive allegations of corruption, murder cover-ups, and criminal infiltration.

At the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry this past week, multiple EMPD members were implicated in serious criminal activity, with retired deputy chief Revo Spies describing the department as “a criminal enterprise.”

A new witness, known as Witness D, further implicated suspended EMPD head Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi, testifying that he helped cover up a 2022 murder in Brakpan under Mkhwanazi’s instruction.

Witness D said the victim was allegedly suffocated and the body was dumped in a Nigel dam corroborating Spies’ earlier testimony.

This infographic breaks down the key figures and their roles in the alleged rot inside the EMPD.
