BREAKING: CAF Confirm Morocco Will Host CAFCL Final

The Confederation of African Football has announced that this year’s CAF Champions League final will be hosted in Morocco – despite the recent complaint from Al Ahly.

The Egyptian giants have one foot in the final after beating ES Setif 4-0 in their first leg in Cairo, while Wydad Casablanca beat Petro 3-1 in Angola.

CAF confirmed on Monday that this year’s final will again be hosted in Morocco, which could be a massive advantage for Wydad, after Senegal withdrew.

“CAF received a bid from the Senegalese Football Federation and from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to host the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2022,” CAF stated on Monday.

“The Senegalese Football Federation subsequently withdrew their bid.

“CAF is therefore pleased to award the hosting of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2022 Final to Morocco. The date of the final is 30 May 2022.”

CAF also confirmed there are discussion about reverting to hosting the final over two legs ruling on one final at a neutral ground in 2019.

“There are currently discussions underway within CAF to revert to the old two-legged home and away final to determine the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, rather than the one-leg final,” CAF added.
