With the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicking off this evening, here is how much money the winners will get.

All eyes will be on Qatar from today as the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup kicks off this evening, with the opening ceremony on at 4pm SA time, before the hosts face off against Ecuador at 6pm.

Prize money in Qatar is at an all-time high for FIFA World Cups with the winners walking away with over R700 million and even if a team were to fail to win a game, the team would still leave with R155 million.

This is what the World Cup prize money looks like:

Winner – USD $42m (R724m)

Runner-up – USD $40m (R690m)

Third Place – USD $27m (R466m)

Fourth Place – USD $25m (R431m)

Quarter-Finals exit – USD $17m (R293m)

Round of 16 exit – USD $13m (R224m)

Group Stages exit – USD $9m (R155m)
