Brazil coach Tite has given an injury update about superstar Neymar, who sprained his ankle against Serbia in his side’s 2022 FIFA World Cup opener.
Neymar, 30, was seen in tears after his substitution in the 80th minute following a rough challenge.
The Selecao No.10 has had ankle issues in the past and an immediate swelling was visible as he walked into the change room after the final whistle.
“You can be sure: Neymar will play in the World Cup. You can be absolutely sure of this, Neymar will play in the World Cup,” Tite said during his post-match press conference, as cited by Brazilian journalist Raphael Zarko.
“He remained in the two goals feeling pain because the team needed him.”

Meanwhile, team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar stated: “Sprain in his right ankle. Direct trauma. He presented edema, swelling. We have already started treatment,” as quoted by Neymoleque.
“We need to wait 24, 48 hours. There is still no scheduled imaging exam. The expectation is observation.
“He was already feeling it. He stayed on the field for another 11 minutes after the sprain. In the end, he couldn’t go on.”
