Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung has shared his thoughts on Jose Riveiro leaving Orlando Pirates at the end of the season.
The Spaniard spent three successful seasons with the Buccaneers, winning five trophies during his stay. On Thursday, the club announced that the Spanish coach would not renew his contract at the end of the season.
In a video which was shared on X (Twitter), Amakhosi boss Bobby Motaung was seen sharing his thoughts on Riveiro’s departure.
“Did you see the Pirates coach is leaving? They will be average next season. We are not changing (our coach). Stuart Baxter did the same thing. He won for three seasons. Once he saw that his profile had improved, what did he do? things are like that,” Motaung said.
Bobby Motaung says Riveiro leaving reminds him of Baxter
The Kaizer Chiefs boss referenced Stuart Baxter’s exit in 2015 shortly after winning a double with Amakhosi. After winning four trophies in three years, the Englishman left South Africa only for him to return a year later to coach SuperSport United.
Bobby Motaung believes Riveiro’s CV is polished enough to move to Europe and coach bigger clubs. With two months left, the Pirates coach can still win a treble given that his team is still involved in the CAF Champions League, Betway Premiership and Nedbank Cup.
