Blue Mbombo Mandela Day Charity Initiative Success

Sultry media personality  , entrepreneur and creative director Blue Mbombo spent her Mandela Day giving back to vulnerable children, transforming one of their living spaces into a bright, colourful sanctuary where they can feel safe, valued and inspired.

Joining Metro FM, Gift of the Givers, volunteers and community members at the Tshwane Place of Safety Association (TPOSA), Mbombo used her passion for interior design to create a space that reflects hope, dignity and the belief that every child deserves an environment where they can dream again.

As part of her contribution, Mbombo painted and decorated one of the children’s rooms, creating a warm, vibrant and welcoming environment designed to make every child feel seen, valued and inspired.

Rather than viewing the day as a symbolic gesture, Mbombo believes the quality of a child’s environment plays a significant role in shaping their confidence, emotional wellbeing and aspirations.

“Every child deserves more than a roof over their head—they deserve a space that tells them they matter, inspires them to dream, and reminds them they are loved,” she said.

Known as a model, entrepreneur, creative director and digital content creator, Mbombo has increasingly used her public platform to champion causes that extend beyond fashion and entertainment. Her participation in the Mandela Day initiative also reflects another side of her creativity—her longstanding passion for interior design and decoration.

For several years, Mbombo has been designing and decorating residential spaces, helping clients transform ordinary rooms into beautiful, functional environments that reflect warmth, personality and purpose. With growing demand for her work and an increasing number of clients seeking her creative input, she is now looking to pursue interior design more professionally, adding another dimension to her expanding entrepreneurial journey.

For Mbombo, decorating the children’s room at TPOSA was therefore more than volunteering—it was an opportunity to use a skill she genuinely loves to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The collaboration between Metro FMand Gift of the Givers also highlighted the impact that can be achieved when media organisations, humanitarian agencies, businesses and ordinary citizens unite behind a common purpose. By combining resources, volunteers and public awareness, the initiative delivered more than renovated rooms—it created spaces where children can feel recognised, protected and inspired.

Nelson Mandela often reminded the world that leadership is measured not by status, but by service. His words continue to resonate decades later:

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others.”

For the children of TPOSA, the fresh paint, colourful walls and thoughtfully decorated rooms represent more than cosmetic improvements. They serve as daily reminders that their community cares, that they are valued, and that their futures matter.

As Mandela Day came to a close, the lasting impression was clear: while 67 minutes may seem brief, collective acts of kindness can create an impact that endures for years. Through initiatives such as this, and through the commitment of individuals like Blue Mbombo alongside organisations such as Metro FM and Gift of the Givers, Mandela’s vision of a more compassionate and caring South Africa continues to live on.
