Blood moon to light up South Africa’s skies on Sunday evening

The phenomenon, which occurs when the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting a reddish shadow over the Moon’s surface, will be visible across much of the world, including all parts of South Africa.
According to astronomers, the eclipse will be visible from 7:30 p.m. to 8:52 p.m., with the peak of the Blood Moon occurring at approximately 8:11 p.m.
This will be the longest total lunar eclipse visible since 2022, and experts say tonight’s moon will appear deeper and richer in red than usual.
