Motsepe Foundation Championship side Black Leopards have roped in well-travelled coach Owen Da Gama to save the club’s sinking ship.
This comes after the Vhembe-based outfit parted ways with coach Johnny Ferreira a fortnight ago.
Ferreira tendered his resignation at Lidoda Duvha to rejoin Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, who are on the verge of dumping him following the club’s move to Free State.
Following Ferreira’s departure, Leopards had to move quickly to get the right man in place, to give the side the best chance to turn their misfortunes.
Rodwell Dhlakama and Morgan Shivambu took over at Leopards on interim basis.
And finding a coach that fit the culture of the side seemed to be a necessity when Ferreira left the club.
The former Bafana Bafana assistant coach, Da Gama will be introduced to the players on Tuesday.
He comes in highly-rated, having coached teams such as Orlando Pirates, Platinum Stars, Highlands Park, Sekhukhune United, and TS Galaxy, to mention a few.
OWEN DA GAMA’S EXPERIENCE EXPECTED TO SAVE LEOPARDS
Given Da Gama’s extensive experience of the beautiful game, he will now be looking to guide the Limpopo club away from the Motsepe Foundation Championship relegation place over the final 13 games of the season.
As things stand, Leopards are placed at the basement of the second-tier log standings with 13 points from 17 outings.
His style of football is seem to align with that of Leopards and expected to suit the players very well in their quest to survive the chop.
Da Gama is well-known for his attacking style of play, creating a strong defence and have a good eye for spotting young talent to utilise to his advantage.
It goes without a doubt that Da Gama’s style of football, had served him so well previously, and will not be a surprise to see it become much more effective.
With Da Gama’s appointment, it will be music to the ears of ‘Hasha Mulilo’ fans even though they won’t take much enjoyment given the position they are at on the table.
