One of the country’s proudest musical exports, Black Coffee is set to redefine South African and African identity with his upcoming “Africa Is Not A Jungle” benefit concert.
The event, organised by the Black Coffee Foundation, aims to address the stereotypes that some of our neighbouring continents have about Africa and its people by showcasing the realities of authentic African culture through its musical and artistic creativity.
The event is set to take place on 8th November in Durban and 29th in Johannesburg. It is described as more than just a festival, but a celebration of music, culture, and community with a distinct African voice.
Not only will the two-part event provide local talent with the platform to showcase their abilities, it also aims to give back to those less fortunate by donating R20 of every ticket sold to charity.
“Each ticket sold is more than access to a once-in-a-lifetime experience; it is a contribution toward building opportunity and hope for those who need it most,” said Lungi Maphumulo, head of the Black Coffee Foundation, in an interview with news publication Sunday World.
He added, “The festival is a movement where music, culture, and social responsibility converge. This is where the world will witness the power of African sound and talent in social change.”
Building a prosperous community has been at the forefront of the foundation’s mission. Earlier this year, the Grammy Award winner shared his plans to establish his own musical academy and has since been working tirelessly to make this a reality. He also assisted residents of Mthatha with food parcels and resources to restore what was lost in the Mthatha floods earlier this year.
The event promises to be an epic one, with the first phase of tickets already having gone on sale.
