Globally renowned DJ and producer Black Coffee is set to join forces with award-winning jazz pianist Nduduzo Makhathini for a performance at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF).

This world-class collaboration, featuring a full orchestra, horns, percussion, and an impressive lineup of special guest vocalists, promises to be one of the festival’s most unforgettable highlights.

STAR-STUDDED LINEUP AT JAZZ FEST

The CTIJF, Africa’s premier jazz and world music festival, has unveiled some of the artists for its highly anticipated 2025 edition.

For the first time, Black Coffee and Makhathini will present their joint repertoire in a fully orchestrated live performance, blending jazz with electronic rhythms to create a one-of-a-kind musical experience.

A leading figure in South African jazz, Makhathini is a celebrated pianist, composer, and bandleader known for his ability to merge traditional African spirituality with contemporary jazz.

Signed to the legendary Blue Note Records, his music is revered for its meditative and healing qualities, deeply rooted in the rhythms and sounds of Africa.

South Africa’s queen of Afro-soul

Another star on the lineup is songbird, Lira, who will make an inspiring return to the CTIJF stage after overcoming a health challenge.

In 2022, the multi-award-winning artist suffered a stroke that temporarily affected her speech and singing ability. Yet, with incredible resilience, determination, and an unshakable love for her craft, she has made a remarkable recovery.

Renowned for her smooth, velvety voice and uplifting messages of love and hope, she has enchanted audiences across the globe with timeless hits like Feel Good, Something Inside So Strong, and Rise Again.

JAZZ FEST BIG BOOST FOR CAPE TOWN

The CTIJF attracts a significant number of local and international tourists and visitors who have been noted to extend their stay in the city.

This brings a boost to local tourism and hospitality revenues, but it also assists in generating more jobs to cater for the increased demand.

Festival head, Shaakirah Adams said the festival employs a significant number of people to help stage the event.

“Up till 2024, the festival has created more than 31,000 jobs (direct and indirect) hosted more than 2,000 South African and 1,600 international artists, trained and developed 3,749 young people in a variety of skills and hosted 18,659 masterclass beneficiaries,” she said.
