Mzansi actor Peter Terry is dead

South Africa is mourning the loss of veteran actor Peter Terry, who has died at the age of 75.

The performer, known for his roles across several iconic local productions, passed away on Friday, 10 April 2026.

Terry built a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry, appearing in popular shows such as Egoli: Place of Gold, Generations, and Scandal!.

He was also widely recognised for his role as Ivan Jones in Binnelanders, where he starred alongside the late Jonathan Pienaar, as well as on Rockville.

News of his passing was confirmed by his daughter, Elizabeth Zacharie, who shared an emotional statement on social media on behalf of the family.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce our beloved Peter Terry, father, husband, and friend, passed away this morning,” she wrote.

“My mom Annette, my sister Sarah, and I are incredibly devastated but know that he is free of pain and suffering.”

She added a heartfelt request to those mourning his loss: “If you have capacity, please light a candle for him and hold him close in your thoughts. With love, The Terry Family.”

While the family did not immediately share further details, reports indicate that the actor had been admitted to hospital for what was expected to be a routine procedure.

However, complications reportedly arose, leading to a decline in his health.

It is understood that he had been battling previous medical conditions, including cancer, which may have contributed to his passing.

Tributes have since poured in from fans and industry peers, many remembering Terry not only for his on-screen talent but also for his contribution to theatre as a playwright and voice artist.

He is survived by his wife, daughters, and granddaughter, leaving behind a rich legacy in South African television and theatre.
