Bimenyimana – I’ve Never Experienced Anything Like That

New Kaizer Chiefs striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana admits he was taken aback by the club’s supporters before his official debut against AmaZulu.

The Burundi international who’s endured a turbulent journey since first being invited for an assessment made his long-awaited debut for the club in the 0-0 draw at FNB Stadium last week.

Head coach Arthur Zwane who admitted he has high hopes for the towering striker handed him 20 minutes to impress in the game and the player admits there’s major room for improvement.

However, after waiting for a couple of weeks to finally be part of the team upon receiving his International Clearance Certificate (ITC) and work-permit, he revealed he was just excited to start his journey with Amakhosi.

“I was excited to find out I’d be in the squad and when I got to the game I could see how excited the fans were to see me. It made me feel good about the Club and its supporters,” he told the club’s official website. “Together with all the staff I hope we can do something good like we said during the camp.

“There was a lot of excitement from my family and the fans so on the way to the stadium I was just focused on wanting to bring something more to the team to help us win the game, but we were unlucky, somehow.”

Within the celebrative-like atmosphere with excitement brimming to see the latest signing in action Bimenyimana received a warm reception before the game and during his warm-ups before his debut, which he could not hide his delight about.

“I have never experienced anything like that,” he explained. “I got even more excited to play. It’s difficult to explain. When I heard the fans cheering for me I was even more focused on doing well in the game. When I got on the pitch my first touch of the ball was good. I gave it to KG (Kgaogelo Sekgota) in some space, which gave me confidence.

“I still feel I can do better though. I always want to improve. In the game, I was a second out of time when Keagan (Dolly) gave me the ball and I was offside so those are the small things from the game, like timing, that I will work on.”

Chiefs are scheduled to face Marumo Gallants on Sunday afternoon at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenberg – which has been subject to some controversy over the past few days.
