Billiat Closing In On New PSL Club?

There have been many questions raised around the future of former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat and a return to Cape Town could be on the cards for the 33-year-old.

Billiat exited Chiefs at the end of the 2022/23 campaign after he and the club were unable to agree on a new deal, with the Zimbabwean player opting to do a no-show at Naturena for preseason.

While questions were raised about his future after an injury-plagued season last year, the 33-year-old remains one of the most talented players of the PSL era, and many were surprised to hear no news of him joining another club.

iDiski Times had recently heard that Cape Town City were hoping to lure in Billiat, and the arrival of his former Ajax Cape Town and Chiefs teammate Lebogang Manyama as an assistant to Eric Tinkler, could help persuade him to return to Cape Town, where he began his career in South Africa with Ajax.

Now City chairman John Comitis, who was in charge of Ajax when Billiat joined, has confirmed that there is interest.

Speaking to Thabo Mosia on GameOn on Radio2000, Comitis was coy but when asked about Billiat, said he’d be a strong consideration.

“Who wouldn’t be?” Comitis said when asked if he’d be interested.

“I think he’s 33-years-old now. And ja. You never say no to a player like that. I’m not sure what his intentions are at the moment. But it’s a good one to think about.

When Mosia asked if he had already been in contact with Billiat, Comitis deflected.

“Who’s speaking to you now from my club?” Comitis said laughing.

“Just remember, I brought Khama from Zimbabwe to South Africa when I was at Ajax, remember that? So I know what Khama’s all about.”

Comitis ended the subject by saying that because of their past, he and Billiat have a good relationship.
