Police Minister Bheki Cele says they have managed to track down several witnesses who provided information on a person who may know what happened.
This follows an intense search for suspects following the killing of a German tourist outside the Kruger National Park.
Cele says the person of interest could help them crack the case.
The 67-year-old tourist was shot and killed during an attempted hijacking.
