At the age of 34 years and 80 days, Karim Benzema has set a new record as he became the oldest player to score a Champions League hat-trick.
The Frenchman helped Real Madrid to pull one of the greatest comebacks in Champions League history when they got the better of Paris Saint-Germain in the second-leg of the tournament’s Round of 16.
Kylian Mbappe’s first-half goal had given PSG a deserved two-goal aggregate lead and looked to have put the Parisians well on course for the last eight.
However, Benzema’s second stanza hat-trick saw Madrid cruising to the Champions League quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, the three goals also took Benzema on to 309 in total for Real, overtaking the legendary Alfredo di Stefano to third on the all-time top goalscorer charts for the Spanish giants.
“I’m proud to be third best goalscorer in Real Madrid history but I won’t stop, I want to score again and again,” said the lethal frontman in a post-match interview.
“Real Madrid are still alive and we’ll never give up. We’ve to say thanks to Real Madrid fans, they were special tonight.”
