Benni McCarthy met legendary Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, who was invited to the club’s training base at Carrington by head coach Erik ten Hag.
Van Persie hung up his boots in 2020 and has since been working as a coach at Feyenoord, where Netherlands’ leading all-time record goal scorer started and finished his career.
With the Premier league currently on a break due to the FIFA World Cup, Dutch coach ten Hag invited his countryman and club legend Van Persie to return to Manchester this week.
During his time at the club, he also met First Team Coach McCarthy, who has been part of Ten Hag’s coaching stuff since the beginning of the season.

“The club is always keen to help its former players out and van Persie is benefiting from spending time with Ten Hag and his squad, as he studies for his coaching badges, with a view to working more in this field in the future,” United stated on their website.
“Robin has been gaining experience with, and learning from, our coaching staff, including first-team coach Benni McCarthy, another former Premier League goal getter, whom he is pictured with below.
“Our former no.20 also posed for a photograph with young, exciting attackers Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri, as the squad returns to Carrington following the week-long winter camp in Andalusia.”
Van Persie spent three years at United between 2012 and 2015, becoming an instant legend after leading the Red Devils to the Premier League league title with 26 goals in 38 games in 2012/13 – the club’s last to date.
