Benni Makes Chiefs & Pirates Admission
Benni McCarthy has insisted has not been in contact with Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates but made an admission about his future aspirations should either team come calling.
The reigning DStv Premiership Coach of the Season parted ways with AmaZulu earlier in the year despite leading the club into their first ever CAF Champions League.
McCarthy had earlier dismissed talks linking him with the coaching jobs at the two Soweto giants and again discussed the topic with South African journalist Mahlatse Mphahlele, however, this time leaving the door for a future move to either side wide open.
“I’ve not been in contact with either, with none of them. So, for me, it’s just a rumour,” he said. “I’ve played for one and I’ve supported the other one as a kid.
“So which coach in the world, well except for Pep Guardiola and the Ancelotti’s and the Mourinho’s, but I think majority coaches anywhere in the world, [if] you get an opportunity to coach either Chiefs or Pirates you go for it.
“You don’t say no, you hear them out. And I’m no different from any of them. I’ve got aspirations and when you get such an opportunity, if it knocks on your doorstep, you’re open and you let them in.”

McCarthy also insisted that the two Soweto giants should do better and compete with Mamelodi Sundowns, who’ve won the last five successive DStv Premiership seasons.
“You know that Chiefs is a massive club and they should be in a better position to compete with Sundowns than most clubs in the league, the same goes for Pirates,” he added.
“And they both [have] not done that, but I’m sure the club is working on rectifying that and that they can come next season, that they can compete and that they can push Sundowns – get the right people in.”
McCarthy is one of several football legends from South Africa and abroad who will be involved in the Heineken All Invitational 5-a-side game. Other names who will share the pitch with the Bafana all-time record goalscorer are Lucas Radebe, Portia Modise, Teko Modise, Amanda Dlamini, Brian Baloyi as well as international legends such as Clarence Seedorf, Luis Garcia, Rosella Ayane and Kristine Lilly.
