Benni hits out at PSL schedule ahead of Setif clash | African News

AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy is not particularly pleased with the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Benni gets the impression that they are not getting sufficient support for their Caf Champions League encounters from the league as he has bemoaned the congestion of fixtures his men face as they compete in the domestic league and Champions League.

Benni believes the PSL should plan better to allow teams to prepare for Caf competition.

Three days after playing out to a goalless draw against TS Galaxy in the league, Usuthu will take on ES Setif in a Champions League Group B clash on Friday evening (18:00) at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“It’s been difficult to prepare under the circumstances. We faced a marathon in December and then had to play (in the Champions League) last Friday before playing in the league on Tuesday,” said the AmaZulu tactician.

“We face another complicated game against Setif. Our opponents had a match postponed so that they could focus on this game. We are accumulating games. It disturbs our preparation, but we have to deal with it. It is not the best preparation for us, but I think mentally we know what is expected from us.”

The Bafana Bafana legend added: “I still have a massive belief in my team, that when we play to our philosophy, to our strength and our identity, I don’t care what team we are up against.

“I know for a fact that it will be a visit from hell when you play against us for any team because that’s how comfortable we are.

“If the players are up for it, then we will make our home advantage count, and when we go away from home, we target one team that we can beat and play for a draw, then you are halfway there.”
