Bayern avoid punishment for 12-man mix-up | Breaking News

Bayern Munich avoided punishment for having 12 players on the field for 17 seconds in their Bundesliga clash against Freiburg last Saturday.

Bayern won the game with a 4-1 scoreline.

This happened when Niklas Sule and Marcel Sabitzer came on in the 86th minute. Still, only Corentin Tolisso came off, as the fourth official showed the wrong number on the board, which meant Kingsley Coman did not know he was supposed to come off, as reported by BBC Sport.

The mix-up led to Freiburg lodging an appeal against the result with the German Football Association (DFB).

However, the DFB succumbed to a decision that the incident was the fault of the officials and not Bayern’s.

“The DFB sports court has decided Bayern Munich cannot be blamed for the introduction of a non-eligible player,” the DFB said in a statement.

“It is more down to the mistaken behaviour of the officials that a 12th man was introduced, and the game continued.”
