Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes that past coaches have played a significant role in the ongoing issues facing the team.
Over the past decade, the Soweto giants have struggled to compete for top honours, securing only one trophy in that time.
Since they last won the Betway Premiership in 2015, the club has changed its coaching staff more than ten times, leading to a loss of patience among supporters with the club’s management in recent years.
“Kaizer Chiefs’ problems didn’t start yesterday, but have been ongoing for some time,” Khanye said as reported by Soccer Laduma.
“Since the club had the likes of (Giovanni) Solinas, Ernst Middendorp, and Stuart Baxter coaching the team, back in those days, the team’s style of play got affected big time,”
“The situation we are seeing now at Chiefs is a result of a number of factors, with wrong decisions having been made on both coaches and the players that are being brought to the club.”
Kaizer Chiefs fighting for top 8
At the beginning of February, Amakhosi were second on the log and looked set to challenge for the title. Khanye, however, feels Chiefs will find it hard to finish inside the Top 8, having lost four consecutive matches last month.
“Now the team is fighting for a place in the Top 8, and it’s not going to be easy. The spot in the Top Eight is now not guaranteed despite their promising start to the season, and something needs to change,” he added.
Kaizer Chiefs are in action this weekend at the FNB Stadium against Durban City.
