African youth entertainment is about to get a major upgrade as BASE Pulse, a new multiplatform channel dedicated to music, culture, and creativity, is set to launch on DStv Channel 322, promising a fresh space where Africa’s young voices can shine.
The channel isn’t just another music station, it’s a celebration of everything that makes African youth culture vibrant; from street-born rhythms and fashion that turns identity into art, to the emerging creators shaping pop culture across the continent.
BASE Pulse aims to capture that energy and deliver it to screens across Africa, giving young audiences a platform that reflects their world.
“Every generation has its movement. Across Africa, that movement comes alive in the music, style, and creativity of young people,” the channel’s creators said.
“BASE Pulse wants to bottle that energy and beam it across the continent.”
The channel is a creation of Pulse Entertainment, a next-generation media company focused on building African stories for a global audience.
By combining broadcast, digital, social, and experiential content, Pulse Entertainment wants to create a space where African creativity can thrive, be monetized, and reach audiences worldwide.
Nomsa Philiso, MultiChoice Group’s director of content and general entertainment in English and Portuguese Africa, said the addition of BASE Pulse strengthens DStv’s youth offering. “We’re always looking at ways to add value to the DStv lineup, and BASE Pulse does exactly that by bringing fresh African entertainment to our audiences,” she said.
Kgomotso Lakaje, channel manager, described the launch as the start of a cultural movement.
“BASE Pulse is more than a channel; it’s a platform where African youth culture can be celebrated, shared, and elevated globally. We want creators, brands, and audiences to connect in meaningful ways,” she said.
Presenter Caddy Tsotetsi added that the channel was designed with Africa’s youngest population in mind.
“Africa has the youngest population in the world, and their stories deserve to be told at scale. BASE Pulse will give the next generation of creatives a stage that reaches far beyond the continent,” she said.
The programming promises to reflect the energy and diversity of African youth culture, with music, trending pop culture stories, dance reality shows, digital-first content, and interactive music blocks where viewers can vote for their favourite tracks.
Signature shows include Highlife Reloaded, celebrating Ghanaian Highlife with a modern twist, and KeWave, spotlighting the hottest sounds from East Africa.
Plugged-In, hosted by The Squad, will deliver daily entertainment updates, keeping audiences in the loop on the stories shaping youth culture across Africa.
