Cape Town Spurs head coach Shaun Bartlett admits he has a bit of a headache as far as managing his squad is concerned for the remainder of the Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign.

Bartlett’s charges who have been eliminated from the Nedbank Cup but are in a good position to challenge for outright promotion to the Premier Soccer League. They are currently sitting in second spot on the Championship log with 44 points in 22 games, just two points from top-placed Polokwane City.

The former South African international’s biggest head ache, though, is that he has five players named in the preliminary national U23 squad to face Congo Brazzaville back-to-back later this month.

Goal keeper Lincoln Vyver, defenders Wayne Dortley, Khaya Mfecane, and strikers Ashley Cupido and Boitumelo Radiopane are in David Notoane’s 29-man squad to be trimmed down to 23 this week.

Bartlett says there will be a meeting at the club to discuss how they will manage the players should they make the final cut in the national squad.

“Yea it’s going to be a difficult one. We are actually having a meeting as a club because we’ve got to make sure that also we achieve our goal which is automatic promotion, nothing less” said Bartlett.

“And the core of our starting 11 they are U23 players. We’ve got five players currently in that squad so we will have a meeting and asses obviously what’s best for us and how we can manage the players should they need to go for national duty.”
