Former Finland outfit IIves Kissat defender Mlungisi Mkhwanazi has finally signed for Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC.

The centre-back penned a two-year contract with an option for a further year.

The 23-year-old has been training with the Limpopo outfit for some time after his contract in Finland ended.

His agent, Andrew Matjila of Living the Dream Sport Agency, confirmed the news to FARPost.

“It was about time. He has signed a two-year deal with an option for a further year. The mandate is simple. He wants to take Baroka back to the PSL. He’s bringing that experience to the team,” Matjila told FARPost.

“There were other clubs that were interested as well. He trained with AmaTuks for a day and then left for Baroka. Baroka showed more interest; SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United came late.”

“Besides the big offer tabled by Baroka, the boy just wanted to play football. Baroka has always given youngsters a chance; 80% of the team that won the NFD with Baroka were youngsters like Thabiso Kutumela and Gift Motupa.”

“As much as he’s 23, the reason they [Baroka] signed him is his ability to play three positions; defensive midfielder, centre-back and right back. He’s versatile. You have three players in one if he’s part of the travelling squad.”

Two months ago, the Stars of Africa academy graduate told FARPost that he is open to switching to DStv Premiership or Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The reason is the desire to play in a competitive league for better exposure.

“My contract with IIves Kissat expired at the end of the season, the club has offered me a new contract, but I haven’t decided on that.

“If I get an offer from a DStv Premiership team or NFD, I will be happy to return home. I believe I deserve to play at a more competitive league,” Mkhwananzi told FARPost.

Mkhwananzi is expected to feature for Bakgakga when they take on Uthongathi FC in their opening league match on September 4th.
