Baroka suffered a 1-nil defeat in the Motsepe Foundation Championship against Venda Football Academy with the latter walking away with Limpopo derby bragging rights on Saturday.

VFA have had a poor start to the 2022/23 season which resulted in the club sacking head coach Michael Loftman.

The victory against Bakgakga was the first of the campaign for the Thohoyandou-based side.

Meanwhile, the University of Pretoria moved to the summit of the Championship table after comfortably beating JDR Stars 2-0 on Friday at Shoshanguve Giant Stadium.

AmaTuks players celebrating a goal against JDR Stars.

Tuks are one of the in-form sides and remain one of the few teams yet to lose a match in the second tier.

Tlisane Motaung-coached team marginally missed out on gaining automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership as they finished runners-up to Richards Bay last campaign.

Tuks had a slow start to the new season after playing two back-to-back goalless draws, however Motaung’s charges have gone on to find an improved form which took them top of the log.

After five games, AmaTuks have won three times, drawing twice, and are yet to taste a defeat.

The remaining fixture for the weekend between Cape Town Spur vs Platinum City Rovers will take place on Monday afternoon. Kickoff is at 15:30.
