Barker ‘Thankful’ After Messages Of Support Pour In
Former Bafana Bafana head coach Clive Barker has expressed his gratitude after messages of support poured in following his recent surgery.
The 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winning coach underwent an operation “to restore normal flow through his aorta” after suffering an aneurysm, as per his family’s official statement.
And speaking to SAFA.net, the legendary coach showed he’s in good spirits on his road to recovery.
“I am so thankful for the support from the fans and former players as well as administrators. I feel like I am back in 1996,” Barker stated before thanking the medical team that has been in charge of the procedures.
“See you on the field of play.”
The 78-year-old coached the South African national team between 1994 and 1997 where he won the nation’s only major silverware to date.
Barker also coached numerous South African clubs, including Durban City, Manning Rangers, AmaZulu and Santos Cape Town.
He won two league titles and two domestic cups during a coaching career that spanned between 1973 and 2016.
