Barker Questions Chiefs Penalties – iDiski Times

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has reacted to Kaizer Chiefs receiving three penalties in their 3-1 defeat at DHL Stadium on Sunday.

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana scored thrice from the spot-kick to down Stellies, who had taken the lead through Nhlanhla Mgaga in the 30th minute.

Bimenyimana became the first player in PSL history to score three penalties in one game, helping Chiefs to register their third league win on the bounce for the first time this season.

However, Barker, who had Mogamad De Goede sent off for a professional tackle on Bimenyimana for the last penalty, was not sure if all of them were clear cut penalties.

“Unfortunately I haven’t seen all three and I was informed that the first one was very soft,” said Barker, whose side beat Chiefs in both league matches last season.

“The other two were penalties? I’m not too sure either and obviously from looking at the rulebook, I don’t know if you can give a penalty and a red card at the same time unless it is a really, really dangerous tackle and you are the last defender.

“I don’t think Rafa deserves a straight red card and penalty against us. Again another big call against us.”

These two sides were meeting for the second time this season after they met in the MTN8 quarter-final at Danie Craven Stadium, and that game became a huge talking point.

Then match referee Jelly Chavani pointed to the spot for an alleged handball by Keagan Dolly in the Chiefs box in the seventh minute of injury time but changed his decision following discussion with seemingly his assistant and the fourth official.

That left Stellenbosch players and the technical team baffled, but Barker later said it “was probably” the right call.
