Banyana Star Suffers Injury Blow Ahead of World Cup

Banyana Banyana star Jermaine Seoposenwe has suffered a huge injury blow ahead of the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Seoposenwe, 28, played for Braga last season and but moved to FC Juarez Femenil in South America in August last year.

The move came after her superb performances at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where she helped Banyana to lift a history WAFCON title and was also named in the Team of the Tournament.

She had carried her WAFCON form to her new club, where she was continuously among the goals and she also recently scored for Banyana against Serbia, which makes her injury a big blow – although it is yet to be confirmed for how long she will be sidelined.

“Striker, Jermaine Seoposenwe, has Achilles tendonitis,” he club stated.

“The recovery time will depend on the evolution of each player.”

The tournament kicks off on 20 July, leaving Seoposenwe just three months of recovery time, with an injury of that sort usually taking between three to six months.

When asked for a comment about Seoposenwe’s injury, Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis didn’t want to comment on Tuesday.
