Banyana Banyana drew their second and last match at the Turkish Women’s Cup 1-1 with Slovenia at the Emirhan Hotels Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Head coach Desiree Ellis made four changes from the team that won 3-0 against Uzbekistan in their tournament opener over the weekend.
Jermaine Seoposenwe, Gabriela Salgado, Linda Motlhalo and Bambanani Mbane made way for Melinda Kgadiete, Asande Hadebe, Kholosa Biyana and Noko Matlou for the clash against Slovenia.
Banyana, who are ranked 54th in the world, couldn’t cope with the Slovenian’s pace in the opening minutes and the European side grabbed the opener in the 12th minute via Adrijana Mori.
In the second half Seoposenwe and Motlhalo came on but the African champions struggled for long break the Slovenian defence.
However, Hilda Magaia eventually found the equaliser in the 76th minute to hold the 46th ranked team in the world, who had won their opener against Uzbekistan 2-1, to a 1-1 draw.
Banyana are using the tournament as part of their preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup later this year.
The tournament had to be cut short following the withdrawals of some teams like the host nation Turkey and Venezuela due to the earthquake that devastated Turkey.
