Banyana Announce Starting XI vs Tunisia

Banyana Banyana have announced their starting XI for their crucial Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Tunisia.

Banyana have cemented their status as one of the tournament favourites after collecting three wins in Group C, raising eyebrows with their opening win over defending champions Nigeria.

Tunisia, meanwhile, only collected one win – a 4-1 over Togo in their Group B opener – and two defeats.

On paper, South Africa are the favourites for this tie, also sitting higher in the FIFA rankings (58 to 72). However, our ladies will have to make due without injured superstar Thembi Kgatlana, who has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament.

The game also holds more importance than just reaching the semi-final, where the winner will face hosts Morocco, with qualification for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup guaranteed for Africa’s top four teams.

It would be Banyana’s second participation at FIFA’s showpiece after 2019, while Tunisia have never qualified for the tournament before.

Here is how they line up:

Banyana XI: Dlamini, Ramalepe, Matlou, Mbane, Holweni, Cesane, Jane, Kgoale, Motlhalo, Smidt, Seoposenwe.

Subs: Swart, Gamede, Van Wyk, Dhlamini, Biyana, Moodaly, Ngobeni, Motau, Majiya.

Tunisia XI: Soulaima, Alabbassi, Aouina, Kaabachi, Mamay Ellouzi, Ayadi, Trodi, Ouni, Lamti, Maknoun.
