Bafana starting 11 vs Cameroon (changed formation)

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has opted for a back-three to mirror Cameroon’s system.

The AFCON 2025 Round of 16 match kicks off at 21:00 at the Al Medina Stadium in Rabat. The game will be live on SABC 2.

The standout call is Orlando Pirates superstar Relebohile Mofokeng starting in the number 10 role in place of Sipho Mbule.

BAFANA BAFANA’S CONFIRMED STARING 11 VS CAMEROON

Samukelo Kabini, Nkosinathi Sibisi and Bathusi Aubaas have replaced Aubrey Modiba, Sphephelo Sithole, and Tshepang Moremi.

Ronwen Williams, Khuliso Mudau, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Siyabonga Ngezana, Teboho Mokoena, Oswin Appollis and Lyle Foster have retained their places after the chaotic 3-2 win over Zimbabwe.

Williams, Sibisi, Ngezana, Mbokazi, Mudau, Mokoena, Aubaas, Kabini, Appollis, Mofokeng, Foster.

Sibisi and Kabini will have their first taste of AFCON 2025 after sitting out the group stage series, while Aubaas and Mofokeng have enjoyed cameos off the bench.

ROAD TO THE ROUND OF 16

Broos’ side stepped into the Round of 16 after a shaky group-stage run.

Bafana Bafana finished second in Group B, recording wins over Angola (2-1) and Zimbabwe (3-2), either side of a 1-0 defeat to Egypt. The results were just enough to book a spot in the knockout phase.

Oswin Appollis and Lyle Foster contributed at key moments, with both players scoring twice during the group stage.

At the back, Orlando Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi also caught the eye with a few standout performances in central defence.

HISTORY FAVOURS SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa head into the tie with a favourable historical record against Cameroon. The Southern African giants have lost only once to Cameroon in nine previous meetings.

Bafana Bafana have also never been beaten by the Indomitable Lions in competitive fixtures. The 3–0 victory at the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations remains the most famous result.

The winner of tonight’s game will battle hosts Morocco, who beat Tanzania 1-0 in their round of 16 tie earlier on Sunday.
