Bafana Draw But Progress In CHAN

Bafana Bafana are through to the next round of the CHAN qualifiers despite playing to a goalless draw against Comoros in their second leg game at the Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

South Africa won the two-legged tie thanks to the 1-0 win in last week’s first leg in the Comoros Islands, but fielded a team with a number of changes from that game.

There was a tenth-minute chance for Keletso Sifama, but his shot went straight at the keeper, while a last-ditch tackle denied Sifama three minutes later.

Bafana went close on the half-hour mark, but were denied by the woodwork, Sammy Seabi’s effort striking the crossbar.

While it wasn’t all one-way traffic, Bafana dominated the first half, Boitumelo Radiopane shooting wide in the 41st minute, but it remained goalless at the break.

Radiopane had a great chance five minutes into the second half, but he skied his effort and it flew over, while a minute later substitute Sifiso Mbidana shot just wide.

Chances were scarce though, and although Bafana dominated, the hastily-assembled squad struggled to find rhythm.

George Matlou’s 79th-minute effort was blasted over, and with the scoreline over the two legs still tight, Bafana had to deal with some late nervy moments as Comoros looked for a late goal.

Bafana are likely to play Angola in the next round, after their 2-0 away win against Mauritius last week. They meet Saturday evening in Angola for the second leg.
