Former Bafana Bafana team manager Vincent Tseka has been told to account for hundreds of thousands of rand spent during the national team’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The South African Football Association (SAFA) raised the matter during its appearance before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture, where officials faced questions over the association’s finances and governance.
SAFA demands supporting documents
SAFA chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo said team managers are given cash floats to cover operational expenses while travelling with national teams.
Those expenses must later be reconciled through invoices and receipts.
Tseka has disputed the amount SAFA says remains unreconciled and was given additional time to search for supporting documents.
Although his contract ended on 31 July, SAFA allowed him a short period to review his records and find missing invoices before the association takes further action.
Former manager given deadline
Hluyo told Parliament that once Tseka’s grace period ends, SAFA intends to use available financial and legal measures to recover any money that remains unaccounted for.
The association has also advertised Tseka’s former position as Bafana Bafana team manager.
SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao said applicants would need either a bachelor’s degree in sports management and five years’ experience, or matric and 10 years’ experience.
World Cup administration under scrutiny
Tseka had already faced scrutiny before the tournament after Bafana Bafana’s departure for Mexico was delayed by visa problems.
SAFA subsequently created a three-member organising committee to manage administrative matters during the World Cup. Tseka served on the committee alongside head of delegation David Molwantwa and SAFA finance committee chair Mxolisi Sibam.
During the World Cup, Monyepao also acknowledged that Bafana experienced difficulties securing training venues.
The latest financial questions add to the scrutiny surrounding SAFA’s administration following South Africa’s return to the FIFA World Cup.
