The Baby Proteas continued on their winning ways at the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar with a resounding 105-15 victory over Trinidad & Tobago in their second group-stage clash.
Coach Precious Mthembu’s side showed no signs of slowing down after their opening triumph against Barbados, racing to a 26-3 first-quarter lead and extending their advantage to 50-7 by half-time.
In the third quarter, South Africa’s defence shut out Trinidad & Tobago completely while the attack piled on 27 unanswered goals.
By the final whistle, the scoreboard read 105-15, marking the Baby Proteas’ second consecutive 100-plus score of the tournament.
‘Urged focus’
Head coach Precious Mthembu praised her side’s discipline, but urged focus ahead of tougher fixtures.
“I am proud of the team; they showed character and consistency.
“We focused on winning and the scoreboard took care of itself.
“Confidence is high, but we need to stay humble and fix lapses, because stronger opponents will punish us.”
The Baby Proteas now shift their attention to a key African clash against Malawi on Tuesday, 23 September at 17:00.
