Ayanda Dlamini weighs in on AmaZulu head coach vacancy

AmaZulu FC interim head coach Ayanda Dlamini has responded to whether he pictures himself as the potential replacement of Romain Folz.

Dlamini, who was Folz’s assistant coach, took over as a caretaker after the 32-year-old tactician was redeployed to the Technical Advisor role.

The former Usuthu striker has since revamped the performances of the KZN side somewhat.

They have also managed to duck the DStv Premiership drop zone after winning one, drawing two and losing one of four matches they have played under Dlamini’s guidance.

‘Cobra’ says he’s not rushing into visualising himself as the next head coach for AmaZulu.

However, he was clear that he wouldn’t reject the offer if it’s bestowed upon him by the club’s president Sandile Zungu.

“That one, let’s leave it to the president [Sandile Zungu],” said Dlamini.

“I told you I’m a very patient man. I still have to add some more coaching badges to my list.

“Whatever the decision the team takes. I’m here, the president knows that I’ll follow whatever he says must happen.

“So, if the president says Ayanda, take over, I won’t run away. If he says I feel we must bring someone else.

“We’d shake hands with the president to say I fully agree, you can do that. But any time you need me I’ll always be there if I’m still around.”

Dlamini has led Usuthu as a head coach before. He was appointed in 2020 after Jozef Vukusic was placed on special leave following a poor run.

However, he voluntarily stepped down in the same year when the results were not coming. He was re-assigned to the role in the club’s youth ranks.

He made a return to the first team when he was promoted to serve as the assistant coach under Folz last year.
