Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife, the police stock theft unit, and the SPCA rescued a male tiger cub from a Pietermaritzburg home earlier this month.
The young tiger, estimated to be four to six months old, was found in an enclosure.
Musa Mntambo from Ezemvelo said the cub was moved to the Free Me Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for temporary care.
Once the necessary permits were obtained, the tiger was sent to Pretoria Zoo, where it will now live.
Mntambo confirmed that the cub is doing well in its new home.
A case of illegal tiger ownership was opened at Townhill police station, and two people have been linked to the case.
This incident follows a similar one in May when two tiger cubs ā reportedly from a breeder in the Midlands ā were removed from a Westville home.
Authorities are determined to crack down on people keeping wild animals in residential areas.
