Australia hammered Banyana Banyana 4-1 in an international friendly in London on Saturday.

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions had lined up another high-profile friendly after the two defeats against Copa America winners Brazil.

However, the Matildas, who are ranked number 12 in the FIFA rankings, proved too strong for Desiree Ellis’ side.

Australia already opened the scoring after five minutes when a mistake by goalkeeper Regirl Ngobeni allowed Cortnee Vine to score an easy tap-in.

Vine completed here brace after 24 minutes after Australia put the Banyana defence again to the sword after Thalea Smidt lost the ball in midfield.

The Matildas made it 3-0 in the 41st minute when Clare Polkinghorne rose the highest at a corner to head the ball into the back of the net.

Caitlin Foord continued the scoring for Australia in the second half when she beat Ngobeni from a tight angle in the 53rd minute.

Australia continued to dominate proceedings for large parts of the game but failed to add to the scoreline. Instead it was Hildah Magaia, who pulled one back for the WAFCON winners, scoring via a fine lob over the Australia keeper in the 86th minute.
