Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has reacted to Mamelodi Sundowns’ sixth successive league title.

Rulani Mokwena’s side was declared the 2022/23 DStv Premiership champions following SuperSport United‘s 1-1 draw against Chippa United this past Saturday.

This was the earliest league title win for the Chloorkop-based side. They broke their own record set in the 2006/07 campaign when they won the league in 25 games.

This season, they managed to win the title in 23 league games.

Bafana Ba Style are now 19 points ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates, who have just six games remaining to consolidate their second position.

On the other hand, Sundowns are willing to continue to be ruthless and extend their lead, as they face Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld Stadium this evening [19:30].

Masandawana are left with seven league games and aims to break or set new records.

Chiefs mentor, Zwane, has passed words of felicitations to the Tshwane giants after clinching their sixth successive league title.

“I would say congrats to them. They have done very well. They have been playing good football,” Zwane told the media.

“I think it is a challenge for everyone to take our game to another level.

“Like I said, with us, we are a work in progress, and we are growing and getting better and better.

“As time goes on, we will be a different team and a different [difficult] team to play against.

“Well done to Sundowns, with us, we take one game at a time.”

On Tuesday, 4 April 2023, Sundowns’ chairman and staff members applauded the players and technical team by giving them a guard of honour at their training ground for winning the league.

Overall, this was the red-hot Brazilians’ 13th domestic league title.
