Arthur Mafokate sues ex-lover Cici

Veteran kwaito musician Arthur Mafokate has launched fresh legal proceedings against his former partner, singer and actress Busisiwe “Cici” Thwala, filing a R1.5 million lawsuit in the Johannesburg High Court.

According to court papers, the 56-year-old music executive alleges that social media posts shared by Cici in September last year were defamatory and damaging to both his reputation and livelihood.

Mafokate claims the posts caused him emotional distress and resulted in lost business opportunities.

The disputed posts allegedly accused Mafokate of assaulting Cici and “almost murdering” her, with images shared online said to include X-rays related to her past pelvic surgery.

Mafokate was previously acquitted of assault charges stemming from a highly publicised 2017 incident involving the former couple.

This latest case marks yet another chapter in a long-running legal feud between the two, whose disputes date back to a June 2017 altercation.

At the time, Cici alleged that Mafokate dragged her with his car, while Mafokate maintained that she had attacked him.

Both parties have since been acquitted in earlier criminal cases linked to the matter.

Efforts to obtain comment from Cici’s legal representative were unsuccessful, while Mafokate has declined to comment publicly on the new lawsuit.

The matter is currently before the Johannesburg High Court, with proceedings ongoing as the court considers the defamation claim.
