Kwaito star and 999 Music boss Arthur Mafokate has reportedly been slapped with a lawsuit by a company called M&M Hiring Marquee CC.

According to a local publication the company wants the singer to replace their R250 000 worth generator that he allegedly hired for his music event and never returned.

The publication also revealed that the company has asked the ex-999 Music manager Brian Mokoena to testify against Arthur. Brian confirmed to the paper that he received a letter from the company’s lawyers. “I can confirm that the lawyers have written to me and asked me to be a witness in this case and as a law-abiding citizen of this country, I have no choice but to corporate with them.”

A local publication also shared a letter that M&M Hiring Marquee CC sent to Brian. According to the letter, the court date is set for 12 April this year.

The letter also adds: “We are duly advised that you are a former employee of 999 Music Corporation. Our client launched a lawsuit against 999 Music for services rendered or for hired equipment not returned. We were duly informed at the time our client rendered services you were still in the employ of 999 Music.

“Our client intends to call you as a witness on the 12th of April to provide testimony in relation to an incident that occurred on 24 January 2018. The incident relates to services rendered by our client. Your testimony will be of great value to assist the court in adjudicating a dispute between the two parties.”

According to the publication, Brian and Arthur had a nasty breakup a while ago after Brian declared in an affidavit back in 2019 that Arthur allegedly stole R6 million from the R9.5 million that his non-profit organisation, South African Arts and (SAADA), received from the National Lottery Commission ( NLC).

Meanwhile, last year Arthur was accused of receiving funding from the National Arts Council (NAC) unlawfully. It was alleged that his family together with his ex-girlfriend Chomee, received millions from the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP).

Responding to the allegations, Arthur released a lengthy statement claiming that he had not received a cent from the organisation as his application was not yet approved at the time.

In his lengthy statement, He alleged that there were people within the NAC who were trying to ruin his reputation. “It has become suspiciously clear that there are personnel within the NAC that are playing a divisive role – selectively releasing information on funding allocations which is completely unethical. They are fueling the fire and feeding into the fixed narrative that some of us are corrupt, and unlawfully benefitted from the scheme, without producing any irrefutable evidence.“

“The person who initiated this malicious campaign, or should I say propaganda, has neither contributed to the arts in any way nor has he applied for funding, or proposed any useful projects himself. This individual has a personal vendetta against me and my family and is disseminating incorrect information to the detriment of many people.”
