Arrows Aim For Top Eight Finish

Lamontville Golden Arrows co-coach Vusi Vilakazi has insisted his side are not under pressure to finish inside the top eight, but it’s the clear target they set themselves.

Abafana Bes’thende returned to KwaZulu-Natal with just one point from their two matches in the Western Cape after losing to Stellenbosch FC and drawing with Cape Town City.

The S’thende nation arrived in Cape Town last week with the hope of getting at least four points but things didn’t work out that way as they were hammered by Stellies 5-2 before their draw with City.

Co-coach Vusi Vilakazi explained that there was no mandate when he and Mabhuti Khenyeza took over, but they set the targets themselves and their goal is to finish in the top eight.

“No we’re not under pressure but it is something that we wish to see. At the beginning of the season [we said] we want to see ourselves in the top eight but we are not under pressure at all,” Vilakazi told journalists.

“When we were given a chance to lead the team there was no mandate of whatsoever but obviously we as coaches and also as players we had targets that we set for ourselves in terms of making sure that we finished in the top eight.

“So it is still possible and we are left with two games playing AmaZulu FC and also Chippa United, so we should get at least four if not six points.”

Arrows are currently sitting on 34 points on the log, level with eighth-placed Royal AM and 10th-placed Swallows, with only goal difference dividing the three sides.
