Are Orlando Pirates preparing for the departures of Mofokeng and Appollis?

Orlando Pirates seem to be preparing for life without Oswin Appollis and Relebohile Mofokeng following their recent signing of Marumo Gallants winger Daniel Msendami.

The Zimbabwean international was unveiled alongside Mpho Chabatsane as recruits during the January transfer window.

Just a week earlier, Andre de Jong was announced as the Pirates’ first signing of the January transfer window.

With Monnapule Saleng departing for Mamelodi Sundowns, it appears the Buccaneers felt the need to bring in a new winger.

Is it possible that Pirates will sell Appollis and Mofokeng?

According to Soccer Beat, Pirates turned down an offer to sell Appollis to Chicago Fire, prompting the US club to pursue Puso Dithejane instead.

The departure of Mbekezeli Mbokazi has pushed the Buccaneers to seek a replacement, with Chabatsane being seen as a suitable option for the 20-year-old’s position.

De Jong was brought in to replace Sinoxolo Kwayiba, who was returned to Chippa United after just six months with the Soweto club.

Msendami’s signing raises questions considering the number of wingers already in the squad. He is a left winger, a position already filled by Mofokeng, Tshepang Moremi, and Appollis.

Often, Moremi has had to play on the right to accommodate Mofokeng or Appollis, who both prefer to play on the left.

It seems likely that coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is looking for a backup option as the season progresses. If both Mofokeng and Appollis are sold, the Pirates will at least have Moremi and Msendami on the left, with Kamogelo Sebelebele covering the right flank.

Will Pirates lose more players this season?
