Are both devils wearing Prada? Streep and Wintour cover Vogue

Meryl Streep and Anna Wintour have broken character to produce an iconic and fun cover for the Vogue Magazine May edition.

Wintour is the inspiration behind Streep’s character in The Devil Wears Prada, Miranda Priestly, and no one can mistake the correlation.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is coming out on 1 May, and there is an expectation of growth and progression in the story and characters, especially because there is a 20-year gap between the two films.

And in the spirit of the upcoming film, Vogue styled the new cover and shot behind-the-scenes footage to show a playful and fun side of both Streep and Wintour.

The Q&A that accompanies the cover sees both ladies giving their takes on different subjects, about both films, the fashion industry, and family, among other things.

Interviewer Greta Gerwig asked what, 20 years later, we need from Miranda now

“I was interested in the business part of it, that thing of carrying the weight of many, many people’s jobs, running a big organization, keeping it going somehow. With this one, I thought, Well, where are they going to go?”

“Now that everything’s disintegrating, now that these institutions are being undermined or exploded in a way that who knows what is happening in the world right now — I wondered what they were going to do. And I do think they’ve located something true about the business now,” responded Streep.

“What I liked about the first film is that it showed the world what a huge business fashion is. It’s a true economic force globally, and the first film acknowledged that. So much has changed. But I like to think we’re evolving rather than disintegrating.”

“We are still here. We’re all doing our jobs—in different ways and across multiple platforms instead of just one, but how wonderful is that? We’re reaching far more people,” said Wintour.
